3 Prayers for Your Child’s Heart, Mind, and Faith

How do you pray for your child in a world that’s moving faster than ever—filled with distraction, pressure, and uncertainty?

As a mother of three, a theologian, and a pastoral counselor, I kept looking for a prayer book that speaks into the real struggles our children face today: identity, emotional overwhelm, mental health challenges, performance pressure, smartphones, digital addiction, and spiritual confusion.

I couldn’t find one that truly captured what I was feeling—something honest, deep, and biblically grounded.

Something that gives me words when my own heart is heavy.
Something that helps me lift my children to God, with clarity and hope.

So I wrote it myself.

Geliebt, lebendig und frei“ is a German prayer book with 100 prayers for parents who long to strengthen their children’s hearts in the digital age.

While the book is currently only available in German, I’d love to share three sample prayers with you here in English—prayers you can speak over your child right now.

Prayer #1: Let the Gospel Take Root in their Hearts

from the chapter “10 Prayers for Your Child’s Relationship with God”

Father, let the gospel take deep root in my children’s hearts. Give them open ears to hear your grace with joy. Help them not only to understand your saving message in their minds, but to truly grasp it in their hearts and hold on to it.

Their relationship with you won’t break—even when they fail—because it is grounded in the blood of Christ alone. Father, please engrave this truth indelibly into their hearts so your good news becomes alive within them.

Let the gospel be like a seed, planted in their hearts, growing and spreading into every part of their lives. Your message brings freedom and renewal. Let my children experience, in very real ways, how life-giving your good news truly is.

Show them how your grace can transform their hearts, set them free, and make them new—so they are captivated by your love and long to know you more deeply.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Acts 13:47 / Romans 10:17 / Romans 8:1 / Romans 8:34

Prayer #2: Developing Emotional Stability

from the chapter “10 Prayers for Mental and Emotional Health”

Father, please teach my children to handle their emotions with wisdom. Show them how to recognize, name, and accept their feelings—without fear or shame. Help them see that setbacks and failures are part of life and offer opportunities for growth.

Don’t let them suppress difficult emotions, but help them process them in healthy ways—in your presence, through prayer, and with people who truly understand them. Show them they can always bring their inner struggles to you. Give them confidence in your nearness and love—especially in moments when they feel emotionally overwhelmed.

Strengthen their hearts so they aren’t swept away by anxiety, worry, or destructive thoughts. Give them the resilience to rise again and again through your strength—even in the midst of emotional battles.

Help my children see themselves through your eyes. Liberate them from comparison, knowing every person has both strengths and weaknesses. Reveal their worth—firmly rooted in your love. Let them stand secure in that truth, growing into emotionally grounded and resilient young people—people who don’t run from their emotions, but understand them and live with them wisely.

Help them place your truth above what they feel and fully lean on you.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 16:8 / Ephesians 3:16–19

Prayer #3: Experiencing God’s Peace and Rest

from the chapter “10 Prayers for Mental and Emotional Health”

Father, grant my children your peace and deep, lasting rest. You see the chaos in the world and how the noise and news affect their hearts and minds. But you are their rock, their refuge—the source they can run to anytime.

Help them recognize how much protection, comfort, and hope they can find in you. For true peace—lasting peace—is found only in your presence. It goes deeper than any moment of calm, deeper than breathing techniques or distraction. Your peace flows from Jesus, who made the way to you through his sacrifice. Help my children step into that peace, live in it, and truly find rest in you. Let your peace become a source of strength in their lives—strength that carries, restores, and protects them.

Uproot anything in their hearts that keeps them from receiving your peace: fear, false beliefs, constant pressure to perform, or the need to stay in control. Thank you, Father, that your peace is not like the world’s—but far greater, and always available. Lead my children into a life deeply shaped by your peace, your rest, and your presence.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

John 14:27 / Matthew 11:28 / Numbers 6:24–26 / 2 Thessalonians 3:16

These were three selected prayers from my German prayer book Geliebt, lebendig und frei – 100 Gebete für Eltern, die Kinderherzen im digitalen Zeitalter stärken.
