4 steps to give something over to God

There are situations in life when we know deep in our hearts that we need to surrender it completely to God. It often concerns circumstances that leave you with a feeling of powerlessness. The problems in your life may be so big you just don’t know how to handle them. Maybe it’s an important decision you need to make. Whatever the case may be, some things we need to give completely into God’s hand, let go and trust him.

This can be very difficult, I know. That’s why I’m sharing with you my favorite tips and steps on how you can give an issue 100% to God.

1. Pray for God’s will to happen. This is the most important step to put your problems into perspective. You need to know that God loves you so immeasurably much! Whatever is going to happen God will make a way to turn it into something good. No matter how deep and hopeless your situation is you’re a beloved child of God! Jesus Christ gave his one and only life for you. When you pray for God’s will to happen from this perspective, rest assured that he will watch out for you. Sometimes, it doesn’t happen the way we want it to. But at least we can have peace of mind that God is in control and his will is coming to pass. In the end, God’s will stands above everything else.

2. Write your issues down. One of my favorite things to do in a time like this is to write my problems and situation on small pieces of paper, fold them up and put them in some kind of a box or jar. Close the box and tell yourself that your problems and situations are sealed now. Pray over the box or jar and give everything completely to God. Put it in a place save and tell yourself that it’s not in your hands anymore. It’s a psychological trick that’s really worth a try! Otherwise you could also write a letter with your concerns to God, put it in an envelope and hide it somewhere or rip it up. Just make sure to get the benefit of doing an actual act of handing it over to God.

3. Meditate on Scriptures. The best Bible verses to pray and think about are on the topic of trust in God. When you want to surrender something completely to God you need to assure yourself that you can trust him. The more we are convinced that the Lord is faithful, the more we are able to have faith and trust in his power. During this time in particular it’s so important to stand firm in God. Here are some of my favorite verses about trust to start with:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Josua 1:9

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

4. Be patient with yourself.Let’s be honest: Handing our challenges completely to God is easier said than done. Even if, you’re following through all these steps, you may find yourself worrying again about that particular issue the next day. Remind yourself that God’s grace is enough every day. Just pray about your difficulties of giving your requests to him and trusting him completely. Always have in mind that God’s a good and loving father who’s kind and gracious with you and truly wants to help you:

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11

In the end, you’re doing yourself a favor when you decide to trust God and he will fill your heart with his peace.
