A personal testimony about the power of forgiveness in my own life: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She and I worked at the same company. Same age, same education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We didn’t like each other, she and I. Enemies? The situation was not as tense as it was between David and his enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But still, we didn’t like one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our attitude toward each other was unspoken, but body language is known to speak a thousand words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We avoided each other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because we both knew: one does not live in the heart of the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things happened, words were said, and an attitude of dislike spoke volumes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our time at the company was over. She was out of sight, out of mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus came. Changed my heart. Changed everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I learned to forgive. I remembered her, forgave her, and received forgiveness.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 years later. 10 years after graduation. 10 years after we last saw each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I run into her in the street where I live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madeleine? she asks me in surprise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, can it really be? Person forgotten. Old story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is standing on the other side of the street, a few meters away from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We talk to each other, loudly, from one side of the road to the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An image of the inner distance that separated us at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An image of the temporal and external distance that separates us now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But my heart is close to her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also has children? I learn in the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God bless her children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God bless her relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God bless her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am surprised at how my heart goes out to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much love I feel for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is the chasm that separated us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My heart knows no distance between her and me. As if the hostility between us had never existed. As if we had always been close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does she feel the same way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or is the distance we talk about now still existing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is her heart as distant from me as the road that separates us right now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what I do know is that I am free. Free to love – to love her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No resentment I bear towards her, no bitterness, no baggage, but a lightness, even love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once an enemy, now I wish her to be my friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is that possible? How can it be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a prayer. In the face of God forgiving me, I forgave too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought of her. Asked God for forgiveness for the past and forgave her, in the name of all names, in the name of Jesus, for what was said and done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that was it. I got up and went on living. It has been a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can it be that forgiveness has such power? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That it can really set me free?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even more, can it really enable me to love former enemies? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A heart ever ready for reconciliation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went on. Was fulfilled. Prayed for her, wished her only good, from the bottom of my heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I felt happy, light, and at ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forgiveness frees. I am free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you, Jesus.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
