We don’t want to wait in a line to pay for something or for the pedestrian traffic light to cross a street. We expect everything to move fast. If we want to contact someone from around the world, we can just give them a call, instead of writing a letter and waiting weeks to get a response. If we want to buy something but don’t have the money, we can just swipe our credit card and off we go with a new watch or whatever.

This habit can lead to a lot of dissatisfaction and anger when we don’t get something as quickly as we might think we deserve it. Maybe you’re waiting for something bigger like a spouse, to get a baby, for a promotion, a situation to change, and so on. To be honest with you, I’m definitely a creature of our time. I’ve been falling into this trap over and over again. How I admire people who have the patience to wait in peace for the right time or see things through!

It’s also very easy to get frustrated with God. It could be that you prayed for something in particular and guess what; years went by and seemingly nothing happened. And what’s the habitual response? “I want it now. Give it to me, God!“ But it seems like we forget that God isn’t pressured by time.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 2. Peter 3:8

Experience has taught me that God’s timing has been perfect in many areas of my life. For example, with my husband: If we had met earlier, I’m convinced that our relationship would have been a big mess. But by the time we met, God has already done a lot of work in our hearts to prepare us to serve each other. I’m not saying that we have a perfect relationship now. However, I’m amazed at the amount of peace, love and grace we enjoy in our union because God prepared us for each other. It’s funny how we understand and accept things when looking back, but not when we’re waiting, hoping and praying.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

In the end, it’s all about God: He has a purpose and a direction for your life and the whole world. After all, we are his servants through whom he’ll bring his kingdom on this earth, to show love to the unloved and to bring hope to the hopeless.

No matter whether what you get isn’t what you wanted or when you wanted it, in the end, the only thing that counts is God and his will. Therefore, we can relax for we know that God holds everything, even time itself, in his hand and that he has a plan that’s greater than anything we have ever experienced.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Never forget that God loves you unconditionally. Rest assured that if a door closes or God’s timing takes longer than you expected, it’s for your own good. To resume the story about me and my husband: You have no idea how many times I’m still thanking God for all the doors he closed on other guys, for all the hoping and praying, because it paid off. Waiting for God’s timing to introduce me to the best husband ever was totally worth it.

Trust that if something is for you, you’ll get it at the right time for God is good!

Read more: What to do in a season of patience

Read more: What to do in a rough season

⭐️ Follow me on Instagram for daily encouragement.

⭐️ Do you need more trust in God?
