Even less do I prefer a whole season of waiting. Do you? We usually want things to happen quickly while our flesh yells ‘NOW.’ Whether you’re waiting for the right person to marry, for a promise to unfold, for a career opportunity or whatever it is you’re waiting for, you probably just want this season to pass.

It is important to realize that life with God is a marathon, not a sprint. We don’t need to rush through every task and jump into the next stage of life as quickly as possible. Don’t underestimate what God is doing in your season of waiting. Even though you want the waiting period be over, be careful not to neglect the process. The best thing you can do is to surrender to his will and timing, because his plans for you are good.

Do you trust him to do his work in and through you in every season, even if you don’t understand?

So, here are a few tips on what you can do in a season of waiting:

1. Pray and ask God about the purpose of this season of waiting.

What does he want you to do and learn in this time period? Ask him for wisdom and revelation. Is there any reason for you to be in this season? Can you find opportunities to learn and grow?

2. Practice what you learnt in the previous season.

Reflect on the time before you entered this patient season. What were the key points God was teaching you then? Which obstacles did you have to overcome? Pray for insight and look back to reflect on what happened in your previous season. Maybe he taught you to trust him with your finances, or he prepared you for a relationship. Whatever it was, keep practicing what you’ve learnt.

3. Focus on the now.

Which task is in front of you at the moment? This can be really simple, like decluttering your house or call a specific friend to encourage him or her. Make a list of tasks that need to get done today. Ask God to help you plan your schedule. Invite him to show you which project to prioritize. Maybe he’s leading to sort out some things in your heart and home in order for you to move forward.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

4. Take this opportunity to grow closer to God.

Our lives normally don’t comprise only of successes and mountaintops. We experience both; highs and lows. Start seeing the good things that are happening in your life right now and look for opportunities for growth. This season of waiting gives you a chance to rest in God and deepen your relationship with him. Try to spend time with him every day. Pray and read your Bible in order to get to know God and his will. Maybe this strengthening of your faith is exactly what you need right now. Be content with your season and trust God’s timing.

Sometimes we don’t even notice how much time our minds are dwelling in the future, waiting for the best next thing to happen. The problem why you’re discontent in your current season is because you wish life would be different. You think when you finally get the promotion, the spouse, the child, the money, or whatever, you would be happy. But the truth is that every season comes with its own challenges.

Trusting God’s timing means that you know God is going to do what needs to be done without knowing when he will do it. Since you can’t outgrow your waiting time, be content with what you have now. You can experience joy and peace when you enjoy what God has given you. Practice being content by counting the things you’re grateful for today. Trust that if something is for you, you’ll get it at the right time for God is good.

6. Get your attitude right.

When you’re in a season of waiting, you may be quick to think that God has forgotten about you. This couldn’t be further from the truth because he’s protecting and shaping you. Never forget that God has good intentions towards you because he loves you like no one in this world ever will. He isn’t letting you wait to peeve you, but to prepare you. A lot happens in the waiting time, even if you may not be aware of it right now.

7. Ask God to develop your endurance to stay strong in every season.

Every time I’m tempted to give up, God reminds me of this passage:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4

I don’t know about you, but I want to be a strong and mature woman. I don’t want to be shaken by this world but stand firm on God as my foundation. Picture yourself as the person James describes in these verses. How will you feel after overcoming this season of waiting? How strong will your faith be? Focus on who you’re becoming in this process and be grateful for the work God is doing in your heart.

I don’t know when your season of waiting will end, but I do know that you won’t stay in this time period forever. You will come out of it! Don’t neglect this valuable time. There is so much to learn, to do and to be grateful for. Stop limiting God on what he can do and start focusing on your tasks at hand.

To wrap things up, let’s get your hopes up:

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. Isaiah 64:4

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Hebrews 6:15

Read more:

Seek the Lord first

A revelation of God’s love

⭐️ Follow me on Instagram for daily encouragement.

⭐️ Do you need more trust in God?
