10 things to pray while pursuing the one

Are you frustrated with being single? Or are you in courtship with someone right now and aren’t sure if he’s the one? Then this blog post is for you. I know that God hears those prayers, because it worked perfectly in my own life. When I was single, I prayed the following 10 things on a regular basis, and I can assure you that God answered each one of them.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Let’s tackle those prayers:

1. Make me a wife after your heart.

Do you want a man after God’s own heart? Then become a wife after God’s own heart. This principal is simple. Do you want him to be a godly man with self-discipline, love, patience, etc.? Then pray to God to transform you into a woman who has the character traits her future husband desires. Become and practice being a good wife before you get married.

2. Prevent any encounter with men from happening that weren’t meant for me.

This prayer is huge. We can waste so much time pursuing men that weren’t meant for us. Imagine how much drama you could spare by not getting involved with men you’re not supposed to be with. Instead, you could spend all this time pursuing what God has called you to do and grow in the knowledge of who he is.

3. Lead my heart to desire the right things.

I know, bad boys have their charm. But let’s be honest, those are not the men you want to get married to and spend the rest of your life with, right? Pray that God put the desires for a godly man on your heart. One that will uplift you and bring you closer to Jesus. Which leads me to my next point:

4. Show me what I should be looking for in a man.

Ask God to reveal to you the character traits you should be looking for. Pray that you may start seeing men through his eyes:

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1. Samuel 16:7

God looks at the heart! I wonder how many times we overlook a man because he doesn’t fit our image of how he should look like. And yes, it is important that you’re attracted to him but if his heart is in the wrong place, a relationship won’t last.

5. Whatever hinders me from meeting the one, remove it from my life.

There can be 100 things in your life right now that prevent God from introducing you to the one. Those could be certain behaviors, attitudes, bondages or circumstances. Whatever it is, we want it to be removed, so that you may be free to meet him.

6. Help me to make a clean cut from every previous relationship.

How could you welcome a man into your life when you’re still bound to your previous boyfriends? Note that this bondage can be physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological. Are you still meeting him once in a while? Cut it off. Have you forgiven him everything? If not, do so. Ask God what you need to do to in order to free yourself for a new relationship.

7. Give me a sign so that I will know it’s him.

A few years back while I was praying for the one, I asked God for a particular sign. I wanted my man to have the same calling on his life as I did. I know, this is very specific. On our first date, Darius told me what he believes to be the call on his life. And you know what? It matched mine perfectly! If I were you, I’d pray to God to help you find a sign you should be looking for. Ask God to make it plain to you when he introduces you to the one.

8. Help me to listen to the inner peace.

This is a sure sign that you’re on the right way in everything. As soon as you stop having peace of mind and heart in a particular situation, don’t go further. Take a step back, analyze and pray about it. The same goes with your pursuit of the one. Does being with him give you a sense of inner peace?

9. Strengthen my trust in you and help me fix my eyes on you, always.

I can’t even stress how important this point is!! Sometimes we can get so caught up in praying and searching for our significant other, that we start trying to make things work on our own. Note, that if you want to attract a godly man, he wants his wife to be close to God as well. There’s nothing more attractive than a person who fully trusts God and lives his or her live according to God’s will.

10. Give me joy in the waiting

Maybe, it’s just not God’s timing yet. You’re working on yourself and you’re pursuing God with all your heart, but the desire for a man hasn’t been fulfilled yet. Don’t get discouraged. Instead, pray for God to help you make the most out of your current season. (I’ve written a blog post about what you can do in a season of waiting)

To be honest with you, I strongly believe that these prayers brought the breakthrough in my life to meet the one. Because I followed these things, our relationship grew on healthy ground from the beginning. And, I wish the same for you!
