10 prayers for your career

Do you want to get ahead in your career and at the same time see God’s kingdom coming here on this earth? Do you want to glorify God with your work? No matter if you’re employed, starting your own business or looking for a job, you need these 10 prayers for your career:

1. My times are in your hands.

When you live for God, you know that he has a perfect time for everything:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1

No matter how your job situation looks like, it is not a surprise to God. Whether you’re leading hundreds of employees or feel overlooked in your current position, God’s loving eyes are always on you and he wants what is best for you. If you’re waiting and praying for a change, breakthrough or promotion, trust that God’s timing is perfect. He knows what he’s doing.

2. Open the doors for a job or promotion where I can shine for you.

If you live for Christ, you’re not only working for yourself, but primarily for God’s glory to be revealed. Therefore, pray that God puts you in a position where you can bear witness of his love and goodness towards all people. Your company needs you. Your boss and your colleagues need you more than they know. Because Christ lives in you, people get blessed and encouraged when they’re around you. Pray for opportunities to truly make a difference in this world.

3. Help me to flourish where I am right now.

You may try to get ahead and striving for the next promotion while you miss out on today’s beauty and joy. Focus on the task at hand and see the opportunity for personal growth where you are right now. Be thankful for the job and position you’re in at the moment.

4. Give me wisdom in decision making.

The company you work for is blessed because you are there. That’s why you can pray for making the right decisions that will bless yourself, your employer and your colleagues. If you’re looking for a job, God will help you decide which job to take, what to do in the waiting period and so on.

5. Use me to love and bless my colleagues.

If you’re working in a corporate environment, most the people you meet daily probably don’t go to church. They need to have an encounter with Jesus to experience all his goodness, love and mercy.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12

6. Help me to trust you for provision.

Maybe you’re working your butt off but still aren’t making enough to support your family the way you want to. No matter if you’re unemployed or hoping for a raise, God is your ultimate provider.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

You’re not dependent on your boss or your company. God has ways to take care for his children we’re not even aware of. Trust that God knows your financial needs and that he will make a way.

7. Show me who to spend time with.

Ask God which of your colleagues he wants you to be friends with. Pray for wisdom to discern the people who have your best interests at heart and those who just use you to get ahead. And look for people God wants to reach through you specifically. Which colleague should you support that’s going through a difficult time right now?

8. Help me to serve unto you primarily.

Work as if you’re doing it for God, not for your employer.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24

I’ve written a whole blog post about this passage. You can check it out here: What if God were your boss?

9. Give me the courage to walk in integrity, always.

Doing what is right is the key! Here are a few verses about the benefits of living with integrity:

To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:3

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:3

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Psalm 37:5-6

Maybe you have been treated unfairly, your boss is mean towards you or you’re just tired of doing your job. Cutting corners seems like a good option to get something out of it for yourself. But please, keep doing what is right because God will reward you if you walk in his ways.

10. Your will be done.

Place God’s will above everything else. No matter if you get what you want or not. Doing what’s right and trusting God even if you don’t understand can be very difficult. But know that inner peace and real contentment only come by surrendering your life to God.

God will bless you and use you to touch others if you remain faithful with the task he has given you. In the end, it’s about his kingdom and his glory.

Oh these are so, so good! And that last one just sums it all up doesn’t it? It’s hard to surrender our job situations to Him, but at the end of the day, that’s exactly what we have to do so He can work in us and through us right where we’re at. Thanks for this encouraging post girl!

Hey Abigail
Thank you so much! And I agree with you – the last prayer is the most important one. Actually, it should be our prayer in every situation. 🙂
