In my last blog post, I wrote about the goal of being a Christian. It’s not just about going heaven, but rather being a vessel for God to bring heaven to earth. I highly recommend you read about the kingdom of God first, before you read about having a kingdom mentality: Christianity is not about getting go heaven
Living in the kingdom of God starts with having a personal and deep relationship with God. Listening to what the Holy Spirit is telling us, receiving his revelations through Scripture, and obeying him is of the highest priority. Only by doing God’s will can we be agents, through which he establishes his kingdom here on this earth.
Let’s first be clear that God builds his kingdom. But he chooses to do so hand in hand with us human beings. We are partakers in the great work he wants to do on this earth.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1. Corinthians 15:58
Whatever you’re doing for God right now, will have eternal value. It will last! The things you do for your family, serving at church, helping out a coworker, praying for somebody, exercising your gifts and talents, it all builds God’s kingdom. Wherever you’re doing something that aligns with the will of God will last forever.
Isn’t that absolutely amazing and mind-blowing?
The kingdom is visible wherever God’s rule is evident. Where the Gospel is being preached, sins are forgiven, oppressed are getting freed, people get healed and restored, forgiveness is being practiced, the poor are being fed, violence ends, peace rules, etc. God’s kingdom is being built.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
No matter if God called you to work at a certain company, to write poems, create art, build a hospital, give to the poor, etc. Do it with all your heart, because you are working for God to build his kingdom here on this earth. I need to say it again: What you’re doing now will last forever! It is already part of God’s new world.
Being a Christian is about reflecting God’s deep love into his creation. It’s about carrying God’s vision into the world. It’s, in summary, about HEAVEN coming on earth. Being a Christian is living in light of eternity, where everything you do matters.
And you’re not alone in this. You don’t just need to work really hard to make God’s vision a reality. No, you have the Holy Spirit on the inside of you who leads and guides you. He’s your counselor and he wants to work through you.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26
And he’s even more than that. The Holy Spirit is an anticipation of what’s to come:
The Holy Spirit is the down payment on our inheritance, which is applied toward our redemption as God’s own people, resulting in the honor of God’s glory. Ephesians 1:14
NT Wright explained that what we see of the kingdom of God now, is like a signpost. It tells us that there’s a village ahead down the road we just can’t see it yet. In the same way, the Holy Spirit is pointing us to the future ahead.
You have a part to play in God’s masterpiece! He has a place and a calling for you that blends into his bigger mission. That’s why it’s vitally important that you know your gifts and strengths, that you listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and obey him.

I really enjoyed this and appreciated your reminder to listen to the Holy Spirit and obey Him. So many times I try to think things out for myself, but then I catch myself, “Wait, what am I doing?! I don’t have to figure this out for myself. Holy Spirit, what should I do?”
Thank you so much, Abi.
